This and the conservation of thypical Tuscan products project, include the conservation of underwood and forests that contain the natural fine white truffle, and the development of the cultivation of fine black truffle. The fine white truffle is the most precious, valuable, expensive and exclusive. It is a natural products and CANNOT be coltivated.

What are truffles?

Truffles are underground mushrooms or in better word tuber owning to class of Ascomiceti, who live in mycorrhizal symbiosis with certain plants.

How do truflles vegetate?

Truffles, like all mushrooms, being totally devoid of chlorophyll and can not process the organic substances necessary for their development, they take them to other organisms becoming pests or establishing a beneficial mutualistic symbiosis for both.

Which plants establish a symbiotic relationship with the truffles?

Truffles establish their symbiotic relationship with various plants, among them oak, lime, hornbeam, willow, poplar and hazel.

What land is suitable for the development of truffle?

The black truffle (Tuber melanosporum – Tuber aestivum) grows mainly in calcareous soils, generally with high content of clay, light and crumbly texture, mostly dating back to the Secondary (Mesozoico)
The white truffle (Tuber magnatum pico) grows in soils with preference marl of the Miocene or Pliocene Era, preferably in a cool place such as along ditches and valley-bottoms, but also in forest clearings, places have ever been made by man.
