From the 90s Podere San Bernardino del Lago is owned by family Palmerini-Pietrelli.
It covers about 90 hectares of land, olive groves, woods, and has a small vineyard in the territory of Chianti Colline DOCG (Chianti Hills DOCG).
RED WINE San Bernardino
The Wine of San Bernardino is a specialty of the company, thanks to the natural formation of the ground and in particular to the presence of stone and to the height of almost 500 m above sea level and to the temperate climate that gives unique
properties.
The vineyard is composed of 97 percent Sangiovese vines (clone brunello).
The wine product DOES NOT CONTAIN SULPHITES and therefore can not be aged.
The color is deep ruby to garnet with aging, the smell is intense, slightly salty taste is dry, harmonious tannins.
VINSANTO San Bernardino
Family Palmerini-Pietrelli produces Vinsanto since ever.
In Tuscany, Vinsanto represented the hospitality and friendship offered to the tourists
passing in the region.
San Bernardino has always shared this philosophy and still today tries to keep alive the tradition of this special and rare wine, even if the annual production is represented by only few bottles, this choice is imposed by his frightening cost of production per quintal of grapes.
The grapes used for our Vinsanto are collected in mid-September and then are left on the traditional
cannicci to dry until early January, that is the moment in which reach 18/19°
bé (technical term that indicates a high sugar content and low water content).
When the beans are ready they are
soft pressed and the must is placed in oak
caratelli (very small barrels of 1 or 2 hectolitre) together with the
madre (concentrated must of precendent vinsanto).
The Vinsanto remains in the same caratello, sealed with lime for 3 years.
After that pause, the vinsanto is separated by the
madre to be transferred in smaller caratelli (0.65 hectolitre) for other 2/3 years.
After this period the Vinsanto is bottled and can be marketed.
The Vinsanto of San Bernardino is produced with 55%
Trebbiano vines, 35%
Malvasia vines, 10%
Sangiovese vines.
GRAPPA San Bernardino
The
grappa is a product of the
distillation of grape skins (
vinaccia) separated from the must of wine.
His name is unique, it can be defined as
Grappa only the grape-marc distillate that is produced in Italy.
The grappa of San Bernardino has a character that links it to the great history of the
Tuscan Grappe: it is
traditional, austere yet
clear taste of Tuscany.
The distillate is a light color, not aged, where the elegance of Sangiovese produces a thingrappa but soft and very fine flavor.
